One of the first truly American Cryptids, dating to 1701, or so Legends of Le Détroit by Marie Caroline Watson Hamlin asserts, um, some time & later. & maybe he’s Nanabohzo, which makes him older, or some kind of Lutin that hitchhiked from Europe, -or some spooky spawn of both these cryptids-, but nobody’s certain.
I will remind you: Since Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac freaked le Nain out, le Nain has appeared at the Battle of Bloody Run in 1763, when Chief Pontiac made the creek through Elmwood Cemetery turn red with British blood.
